language consultancy +

As a language consultant I can help you find the right voice for the ideas you want to communicate and help you create systems for maintaining that voice while uplifting the ideals of language justice. Here are just some of the many ways we can do all of that and more!

Contact me so we can discuss your needs in detail.

QC + Editing

Essential to impeccable communication is an obsessive attention to detail. If you need a sensitive sounding board, a meticulous eye for error, or a strict enforcer of structure, don’t be shy. Let me proofread your thesis, fact check your article, do a little QC on your presentation, or polish your elevator pitch. I’ll help you turn up the exquisite factor to just the right pitch.

Transcreation

One of the foundational components of being a good translator is being a good writer and editor. Transcreation is the nexus of these two practices on a cultural plane. It describes the process of crafting text for a specific language and culture at the behest of a creator who is not immersed in that language or culture. Transcreation encompasses the wording, format, context and tone so that you can communicate your ideas more accurately.

Dubbing + Aural Translation

We are all familiar with dubbing as an alternative to subtitles that can afford even more accessibility to visual projects, and I am at your service if that is something you are in need of. In addition, aural translation is becoming more and more important in a world of podcasts, audio books, text to audio articles, etc. Dubbing and aural translation are also critical components of language justice. Just as in other types of communication and translation, dubbing and aural translation can open your ideas to wider audiences by being inclusive to non-normative communication needs.

Translation Program Management

A good portion of my career up to now has been creating, managing and expanding translation programs at a number of non profit organizations and NGOs. Translation program management takes a lot of strategic planning, good people skills, and advanced institutional knowledge management. Whether you are in need of a temporary translation program manager for a one time project or you want to build a translation program from the ground up, I would be more than happy to geek out with you and work to make that happen!

Research

Linguistic Research - My linguistic research skills are a large part of the work I do as a translator. Understanding linguistic contexts, cultural language norms, and accents or dialects can be crucial to a comprehensive and fully resourced project.

Foreign Language Research - If your research requires a deep (or not so deep) dive into Spanish or Portuguese texts, I am happy to support that work through initial textual research as well as translation, transcription, summarization, etc.

Academic + Investigative Research - I also have an extensive background in academic, journalistic, and socio-economic research as well. Recent research projects I have worked on include human rights cases in Mexico, the juridical history of Spain and its colonies, immigrant housing rights in Los Angeles, and tracking police activity in neighborhoods across the city, among many others. Feel free to reach out if you are looking for a little helpful research assistance.
